Washington, DC

The main lobby of the South building in the Watergate Apartment complex is a large space with a high ceiling and floor to ceiling glass on three of it’s four walls. When it came time to refurbish the lobby, the one thing everyone wanted to change was the look of the massive single support column located at the center of the space. The designer on the project covered the harsh angles of the square column with drywall, changing it to a cylinder. We then re-created the marble tile mosaic floor on the column using paint. Matching the floor causes the column to blend in with its surroundings rather than stand out as a focal point.
