Our clients loved the location and setting of their newly-acquired home in Northen Virginia, but felt the house needed a major make over to make it feel like home. As part of a total remodel our work included Dining Room walls finished in a lightly-iridescent stria then covered with hand-painted floral designs inspired by one of the fabrics used in the space. We also added faux marble inlays in a classic octagon pattern to the Dining Room’s wooden floor. The wooden sections of the floor design were also painted to change the direction of the wood’s grain to conform with the marble it surrounds.

Walls and trim in the Foyer, Hallways and Living Room were glazed in a, tone-on-tone stria so subtle that it might not be noticed at first glance. We used an equally subtle tone-on-tone broken color finish on the walls and columns in the kitchen and breakfast room. Mottled accent stripes applied to the doors and drawers of the kitchen cabinets integrated their appearance with other elements of the Kitchen design.

In the more casual lower level of the home we glazed the walls in an ombré finish using earth tones to make new drywall look like ancient plaster. Glazed ceilings with limed-oak beams, doors and windows add to the illusion that this new space has existed for a very long time. In the coffers of the ceiling in the lower-level “dancing area” we stenciled and hand painted polychrome designs incorporating our clients’ monogram for a personal touch.
