Designed and built as a second home, Traditional Home’s “Weekend Living in Montecito Showhouse” is no ordinary weekend retreat. It was new construction but some of the materials used were very old, such as the imported Ancient Medina Stone floors in the Foyer and Hallways.

Our role was to create a seamless look and a timeless atmosphere by finishing the new materials (drywall, paint-grade wood and new lyptus wood) to blend with the old. Walls throughout much of the home were painted to look like they had been around for hundreds of years and had not been painted for decades. The unusual pink color of the lyptus wood coffered ceilings, wainscots, doors and trim was waxed in a custom color that masked the pink and produced the more familiar look of traditional limed oak. We then applied decorative patterns to the ceiling beams with a very light touch as if they had faded and worn away over time. Paint-grade exterior doors and windows were faux painted to match the waxed lyptus wood.

We finished the walls and ceilings of the Master Bedroom and Master Bath in a Venetian plaster to match the soft gray-blue hue of the Montecito Bay visible from the Master Bedroom window.
